Driving Impact: APFE’s Strategic Priorities

  • ACADEMIC ACCELERATION

Focuses on improving reading and math proficiency through innovative interventions, science-based learning, and strong partner engagement. The goal is to increase the percentage of students reading at or above a 3rd-grade level and improve
    8th-grade math proficiency.

  • TEACHER DEVELOPMENT

Aims to attract and retain excellent educators by offering alternative pathways to teaching and
    a merit-based award program for
    exemplary teachers and school leaders.

  • COLLEGE, CAREER, AND LIFE READY

Strives to prepare students for the workforce by leveraging career-focused curriculum, expanding internships and apprenticeships, promoting hands-on learning, and fostering innovation. The measurement for success is to increase the percentage of students demonstrating career readiness.

  • WHOLE CHILD FUND

A fundraising initiative to provide unrestricted funds for essential student and school needs not covered by the APS general budget, such as field trips, transportation, incentives, health care, food, emergency needs, and extracurricular fees.

  • Academic Acceleration

APFE works through powerful partnerships to enhance literacy and numeracy proficiency across all grade levels by investing in early interventions, science-based learning strategies, and innovative tools that help students thrive.

GOAL:  Increase the percentage of students reading at or above grade level by 3rd grade and achieving math proficiency by 8th grade.

  • Teacher Development

Research shows the most important factor in a child’s education is the teacher in the classroom. APFE invests in attracting and retaining top educators through alternative certification pathways and a merit-based award program that celebrates excellence in the classroom.

GOAL: Launch new teacher pipelines and reward outstanding educators across APS.

  • College, Career, and Life Ready

In partnership with APS’ College and Career Academy and CTAE, APFE works with corporate partners to design career pathways and training that equip students for life beyond the classroom. These partnerships work by expanding access to career-focused curriculum, dual enrollment, internships, apprenticeships, and hands-on learning opportunities.

GOAL: Increase the percentage of students demonstrating career readiness.

  • Whole Child Fund

Educating a child is often more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. Students need wrap-around supports and APFE, through the Whole Child Fund, provides flexible, unrestricted funding to support essential needs not covered by the APS general budget. This includes everything from transportation, field trips, health services, extracurricular fees, to emergency supports and basic needs for children and families in crisis.

GOAL: Ensure equitable access to resources and enrichment opportunities for all students.
